The Police have arrested a 34-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of dangerous driving.

On 30 December 2021 at about 3.30pm, the Police were alerted to a video of a car who had purportedly failed to comply with the red-light signal at a pedestrian crossing along Lentor Avenue, and almost collided into a pedestrian who was crossing the road at the time. Following investigations, officers from the Traffic Police established the identity of the driver and arrested him on 4 January 2022 for the offence of dangerous driving. The driver has since been issued with an immediate suspension of his driving licence. Investigations are ongoing.

Motorists convicted of dangerous driving under Section 64(1) of the Road Traffic Act, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $5,000, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both; and in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or both. Offenders may also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.

All motorists are reminded to abide by all traffic rules to keep the roads safe for everyone. The Traffic Police will not hesitate to take firm action against motorists who choose to flout traffic laws and endanger the safety of other road users.
