The Police have arrested four Indonesian men, aged between 19 and 38, for unlawful entry into Singapore.
On 9 October 2020 at about 8.30pm, the Police Coast Guard (PCG) detected the four men on Tuas Reclaimed Land with the aid of its surveillance systems. The four men were observed to have jumped off an unnumbered boat into the waters, sea off Tuas Reclaimed Land before swimming towards the shoreline.
Following the detection, officers from the PCG, Jurong Police Division, Gurkha Contingent, Special Operations Command and Home Team Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Unit responded to intercept the four men. The four men were arrested within five hours from the time of detection.
The four men have been charged in court on 10 October 2020 with unlawful entry into Singapore under Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 133. The penalties for illegal entry are a jail term of up to six months and a minimum of three strokes of the cane.
The four men were handed over to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority for further investigations.
Commander of the Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheang Keng Keong said “The officers’ vigilance and excellent team work which resulted in the swift arrest are highly commendable. PCG will spare no efforts and will continue to take firm action against such offenders to safeguard our waters and sea borders against crime and security threats, including unauthorised entry into and departure from Singapore.”
