Three Individuals Presented With Public Spiritedness Awards And Five Organisations Presented With Community Partnership Awards

On 3 August 2021, Clementi Police Division presented the Public Spiritedness Award to three members of the public, and twelve staff from five organisations were commended for their strong community partnership with the Police.

Cases Commended for Public Spiritedness Award

On 8 March 2021, Mr Ng Kwek Yong Leo was at the traffic junction between Clementi Ave 3 and Commonwealth Ave West when a woman approached him for help saying she had been molested by a man. Mr Ng spotted the man who tried to flee and attempted to stop him. Mr Gary Soo Chee Siong, who was nearby, quickly offered his assistance and they managed to detain the man before calling the Police. Their actions led to the arrest of the man for Outrage of Modesty.

On 13 February 2021, Mr Ramli Bin Abdullah, spotted a man behaving suspiciously at Blk 242 Jurong East Street 21, by attempting to unlock some bicycles. Mr Ramli quickly alerted the Police and followed the man, providing a clear description of the man to the Police. The crucial information provided by Mr Ramli led to the swift arrest of the man for theft.

Individuals Commended for Community Partnership Award (Individual)

On 29 January 2021, Mr Patrick Lim Yen Teck, Head of Security of Tanglin Trust School, was informed that a staff of Tanglin Trust School had been molested by a man at One-North Park: Fusionopolis South. He immediately called the Police and provided clear descriptions of the man and his location. Mr Lim confronted the man and gave chase when the man attempted to flee. While he did not manage to detain the man, he provided crucial information to the Police, leading to the arrest of the man for Outrage of Modesty.

On 29 March 2021, Mr Saminathan Dinakaran, a Senior Security Officer at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, was informed that a man had committed an act of voyeurism inside a toilet cubicle. He responded swiftly by reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage based on the victim’s description and managed to ascertain the location of the man. With the information provided to the Police, the man was subsequently arrested for voyeurism.

Organisations Commended for Community Partnership Award

Three organisations were highlighted for their close collaboration with Clementi Police Division in developing and implementing crime prevention initiatives. In recognition of their significant contributions, the following entities were presented with the Community Partnership Award (Organisation).

  • 7-Eleven store at Blk 104 Jurong East St 13

  • 7-Eleven store at Blk 202 Jurong East St 21

  • 7-Eleven store at Blk 252 Jurong East St 24

  • 7-Eleven store at Blk 338 Jurong East Ave 1

  • 7-Eleven store at JCube

  • 7-Eleven store at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital

  • 7-Eleven store at Vision Exchange

Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Marc E, Commander of Clementi Police Division expressed his appreciation to the award recipients for their public spiritedness in making our community a safer and more secure place to live in, and partnership with the Police. He said, “Crime is more likely to be solved and criminals are more likely to be deterred, if public-spiritedness is strong and widespread. The public-spiritedness and partnership with the Police displayed by these individuals and organisations are commendable. Their actions are exemplary to the rest of our community.”
