Man Arrested For Abetting To Engage In Conspiracy To Assist Others To Depart Singapore Illegally

The Police have arrested a 38-year-old Malaysian man for his suspected involvement in assisting a 26-year-old Singaporean man, Pi Jiapeng, and a 27-year-old Thai woman, Pansuk Siriwapa, to depart Singapore illegally in contravention of Section 5A(1)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959.

 Investigations revealed that the 38-year-old man allegedly entered into a conspiracy with a 40-year-old Malaysian man, Mohamed Bin Alias, to commit the offence on 4 July 2022. Mohamed Bin Alias had been charged in court on 15 July 2022 for assisting the couple to depart illegally.

With strong co-operation and assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police, the 38-year-old man was arrested in Malaysia on 29 July 2022. He will be charged in court on 30 July 2022 for an offence punishable under Section 57(1)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959 read with Section 108B read with Section 109 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, he faces a minimum imprisonment term of not less than 6 months and not more than 2 years, and shall also be liable to a fine not exceeding $6,000.
