The Police have arrested two men, aged 20 and 23, for their suspected involvement in multiple cases of cheating.

Between 5 March 2023 and 13 April 2023, the Police received five reports from various restaurants, where two men had dined at the restaurant with a group of others and left without making payment.

Through ground enquiries and follow up investigations, officers from Central Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them on 18 April 2023.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had dined together, and on occasions, with several others, each time ordering large amounts of food and drinks. The duo then informed the restaurant staff that payment will be made or purportedly pretended to make payment via a defunct bank card where the transaction was declined. At least five restaurants were affected, with losses amounting to more than $2000.

Police investigations are ongoing. The offence of cheating with conspiracy under Section 420 read with Section 120B of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
