Woman Arrested For Series Of Shop Theft At Changi Airport

The Police have arrested a 48-year-old Australian woman for her suspected involvement in a series of shop theft in the transit area of Changi Airport.

On 8 December 2024, the Police were alerted to a series of shop theft after perfumes, undergarments, and crossbody bags amounting to about $1,500 were discovered missing from three retail outlets located in the transit area of Changi Airport.

The items were discovered missing after a staff from one of the stores observed the woman behaving suspiciously by entering and exiting the store without purchasing any item.  A stock take was then immediately conducted by the store’s Loss Prevention Officer, who then reported the matter to the Police.  With his assistance, officers from the Airport Police Division detained the woman before she could depart for her flight out of Singapore. Preliminary investigations revealed that she had allegedly entered the three stores and stole the various items by concealing them in her bag on the trolley that she was pushing, before leaving the stores without paying for the items.

The woman will be charged in court on 20 December 2024 for three counts of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence of theft in dwelling carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.

The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft.
