Large crowds are expected in the vicinity of the Chinatown Street Bazaar which is held from 8 January 2025 (Wednesday) to 28 January 2025 (Tuesday), the eve of Chinese New Year.
Safety and Security Arrangements
From the evening of 8 January 2025, Police officers, auxiliary police officers and security officers will be deployed to manage crowds in Chinatown and to ensure the safety and security of the public.
As Chinatown MRT station (North-East Line, Downtown Line) is expected to be crowded, commuters are advised to consider using Maxwell MRT station (Thomson-East Coast Line) as the alternative.
Members of the public intending to visit Chinatown between 24 and 26 January and 28 January are encouraged to check the Crowd@Chinatown map at https://go.gov.sg/crowd-at-chinatown to view real-time information on crowd levels and area closures before proceeding to Chinatown. The Crowd@Chinatown map can be accessed via computer or mobile devices from 6pm onwards on the abovementioned dates. Members of the public are strongly advised to avoid crowded areas marked in red colour on the Crowd@Chinatown map.
For crowd safety, diversions to access the bazaar may be implemented. If crowd safety thresholds are reached, specific areas will be locked down and visitors will be diverted. Members of the public are advised to be patient and to follow the instructions of officers and security personnel at all times.
The Police would also like to remind the public to remain vigilant and adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Look after your belongings at all times;
- Ensure your bag is closed at all times and kept in front of you;
- Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket;
- Be cautious when approached by strangers trying to get close to you;
- Take note of crowd advisories and comply with instructions from officers and security personnel;
- Avoid confrontation with unruly crowds; and
- Approach any police officer or dial ‘999’ if urgent assistance is required.
Traffic Arrangements
To facilitate the event, Temple Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic during the stipulated periods:
- Weekdays (Mondays to Thursdays) – 4pm to 11pm
- Weekends (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays) – 2pm to 11.59pm
- 28 January 2025 (Chinese New Year Eve) – 2pm to 1.30am (the following day)
During the road closure period, vehicular access will only be granted to authorised vehicles as well as Police and emergency vehicles. Auxiliary police officers will be deployed to assist and direct motorists.
As we enjoy the festivities, we urge everyone to #StayAlert, #StayUnited and #StayStrong in our fight against crime and terrorism.
