Two Men Arrested For Suspected Involvement In The Sale Of Counterfeit Mobile Phones

The Police have arrested two men, aged 40 and 34, for their suspected involvement in a case involving the sale of counterfeit mobile phones.

On 12 March 2025, the Police received a report from a victim who was allegedly cheated by the 40-year-old man, who approached her at City Plaza and sold her a counterfeit iPhone 16 Pro Max at $600. After the transaction, the victim was unable to log into her Apple ID account. The victim then brought the phone to an authorised retailer and ascertained that the mobile phone was a counterfeit.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division and Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the 40-year-old man and arrested him, along with his suspected accomplice, a 34-year-old man, on 19 March 2025. 22 counterfeit mobile phones, charging cables, and cash amounting to more than $1,000 were seized as case exhibits.

Both men will be charged in court on 20 March 2025 with the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
