The Police have arrested a 37-year-old male Indian national for his suspected involvement in a series of shop theft that was committed in the transit area of Changi Airport.
On 23 March 2025, the Police were alerted to a case of shop theft after a handbag was discovered missing from a retail outlet located in the transit area of Changi Airport.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV footage, officers from the Airport Police Division established the identity of the man, detained him within 30 minutes of the report and prevented him from departing Singapore.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was believed to be involved in a series of shop theft cases involving items such as watches, shirts, chocolates, and accessories amounting to more than $1670 from four other retail outlets.
The man will be charged in court on 7 April 2025 with the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, he shall be punished with an imprisonment term which may extend to 7 years, or with a fine, or with both.
The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft.
