The 22-year-old man arrested yesterday for allegedly slashing another and injuring three police officers, will be charged in court on 19 April 2025.
On 17 April 2025 at about 1.10pm, the Police received several calls for assistance in the vicinity of Blocks 676 and 677 Hougang Avenue 8, where members of the public witnessed a naked man purportedly damaging vehicles at the open car park.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the 22-year-old man had allegedly attacked a 30-year-old man with a knife. He then damaged a parked vehicle before purportedly picking up a wooden plank with nails and usinged it to damage a stationary bus along Hougang Avenue 4.
Upon Police’s arrival, the 22-year-old man allegedly attacked them with the wooden plank as they attempted to arrest him. Necessary force was used to subdue him. Three police officers suffered minor injuries. The 30-year-old man sustained injuries on his arm and was conveyed conscious to the hospital.
The man will be charged with the offence of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons under Section 324 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments.
A member of the public, Mr Shari bin Mohd, displayed commendable bravery when he intervened to protect the 30-year-old man and his three-year-old son during the incident. Mr Shari swiftly acted by moving them away from the man, successfully ensuring their safety. He will be presented with the Public Spiritedness Award, in recognition of his courage and quick intervention.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Xie Xingmao said, "Mr Shari's courageous intervention prevented what could have been a very dangerous and deadly situation. His selfless actions exemplify the strong community spirit that helps keep the community safe. The Police have zero tolerance for criminals who endanger the safety of the public and will spare no effort to ensure they are dealt with severely, to the fullest extent of the law.”
