The Police have arrested a 32-year-old male British national for his suspected involvement in a series of shop theft that was committed in the transit area of Changi Airport.
On 15 April 2025 at about 9.43pm, Police were alerted to a case of shop theft at Shilla Perfume and Cosmetic in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the retail supervisor had noticed a bottle of perfume missing from the shop’s shelf while taking stock of their inventory. CCTV footage showed the man entering the retail shop and allegedly took a bottle of perfume and left without paying.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of CCTV footage, officers from Airport Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him. The man is believed to be involved in a series of shop theft cases involving items such as perfumes, cosmetics, wine, confectionery and a wallet, amounting to more than $2900.
The man will be charged in court on 7 May 2025 with eight counts of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years, or with fine, or with both.
The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases. Offender will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter shop theft offences.
