The Police have arrested 44 persons for their suspected involvement in vice activities and the unlawful conduct of lotteries at a food court in the vicinity of Geylang Lorong 23.
On 29 May 2025, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Bedok Police Division and Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, conducted an enforcement operation in the vicinity of Geylang Lorong 23 and arrested 42 persons, aged between 25 and 63, at a food court for alleged offences under the Women’s Charter 1961. One 50-year-old woman was also arrested at a hotel along Geylang Road for providing sexual services. She allegedly used the aforementioned food court as the place for assignation.
In addition, a 49-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly conducting unlawful lotteries at the food court. Betting related paraphernalia were seized from her. Investigations against the 44 persons are ongoing.
Under Section 147 of the Women’s Charter 1961, any person who keeps, manages or assists in the management of a place of assignation, shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $100,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or to both. Where the person is a repeat offender, he will be liable on conviction, to a fine not exceeding $150,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years or to both.
Under Section 18 of the Gambling Control Act 2022, any person who is found to be involved in the unlawful conduct of lotteries shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $500,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years.
The Police do not condone any activities that threaten public safety, peace and good order of the community. The Police will continue to work with other government agencies to clamp down on unlawful activities. Offenders will be dealt with sternly, in accordance with the law.
