A 57-year-old man will be charged in court on 4 July 2025 for alleged offences under the Penal Code 1871, Protection from Harassment Act 2014, and the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015.

On 3 May 2025, the man had allegedly damaged campaign materials belonging to a political party at Hougang Avenue 5, including breaking flag poles and tearing down campaign posters. He also purportedly used threatening, abusive and insulting remarks towards party volunteers who were at scene and allegedly pushed two of the party volunteers. The man was reportedly intoxicated during the incident and subsequently arrested by police officers.

The man will be charged with the following offences:

  • Mischief under Section 426 of the Penal Code 1871, which carries an imprisonment term of up to two years, a fine, or both;
  • Intentional harassment under Section 3(1)(a) of the Protection from Harassment Act 2014, which carries an imprisonment term of up to six months, a fine of up to $5,000, or both;
  • Using criminal force under Section 352 of the Penal Code 1871, which carries an imprisonment term of up to three months, a fine of up to $1,500, or both; and
  • Causing annoyance whilst drunk under Section 14(2)(b) of the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015, which carries an imprisonment term of up to six months, a fine of up to $1,000, or both for first-time offenders.

The Police have zero tolerance towards such acts that threaten public order and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
