The Police will be charging a 44-year-old man on 6 May 2026 for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire with intent to destroy a house.
On 4 May 2026 at about 9.40pm, the Police were alerted to a fire at a residential unit at Block 14 Joo Seng Road. The incident resulted in significant property damage to the affected surrounding residential units. Eight residents were conveyed to the hospital for treatment due to smoke inhalation. Two SCDF firefighters who felt unwell during the firefighting operation were also conveyed to the hospital as a precaution. Both firefighters have been discharged from the hospital.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him at the scene.
The man will be charged in court with the offence of mischief by fire with intent to destroy a house under Section 436 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to ten years and shall also be liable to a fine.
The Police have zero tolerance for any acts that endanger the lives or safety of others and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
