The Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking.
On 30 May 2026 at about 9.50am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking where a residential unit at Block 225 Yishun Street 21 was broken into. Cash amounting to $520, bank cards, NRICs and a EZ-Link card were purportedly stolen.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTVs and Police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division and Police Operations Command Centre established the identity of the man and arrested him at the vicinity of Block 744 Yishun Street 72 within four hours of the report. The stolen bank cards, NRICs and EZ-Link card were recovered from his possession. A plier that was allegedly used in the commission of the offence was also seized as case exhibit.
The man will be charged in court on 1 June 2026 with the offence of housebreaking under Section 451 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to ten years and a fine.
The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks before leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while.
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in your premises.
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or CCTVs to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
- Get to know your neighbours and look out for one another. If you notice anything unusual at a neighbour's unit, alert them or the Police promptly.
- Do not leave spare keys in easily accessible or predictable locations outside your premises, such as under doormats or in potted plants.
- If you observe any suspicious persons or activities in your vicinity, call the Police immediately at '999'.
