There was a change of command ceremony at Traffic Police on 5 June 2026.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Serene Chiu will assume command of Traffic Police on 8 June 2026. She takes over from Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Daniel Tan, who assumed the appointment of the Chief Executive of Gambling Regulatory Authority on 2 June 2026.
SAC Serene Chiu, 51, joined the SPF in 1999 and has served 27 years with the SPF. She has held several key appointments including Commander of Clementi Police Division, Director of the Public Affairs Department, Deputy Commander of Tanglin Police Division, Deputy Director (Resource Management) of the Planning & Organisation Department, and Deputy Director of the Homefront Security Division in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
SAC Daniel Tan, 54, was appointed Commander of Traffic Police on 18 May 2023. In his 30 years with the SPF, he has held several key appointments including Deputy Commissioner (Policy and Transformation) of the Singapore Prison Service, Director of Planning and Organisation Department, Commander of Central Police Division, and Deputy Commander of Police Security Command.
As Commander TP, SAC Daniel Tan drove major legislative changes that strengthened road safety, such as revisions to the demerit points system and expansion of speed limiter requirements for heavy vehicles. He also built strong partnerships with government agencies and industry stakeholders to achieve safer roads for Singapore.
Under SAC Daniel Tan’s leadership, TP advanced the use of technology in operations. This included the next-generation Electric Vehicle Expressway Patrol cars, with advanced technology features to improve SPF’s response to incidents, and the use of AI-enabled analytics to improve the detection of traffic violations.
Reflecting on his tenure as Commander of Traffic Police, SAC Daniel Tan said, “As I relinquish my appointment as Commander TP, I do so with a deep sense of gratitude, pride, and humility. It has been an absolute privilege to serve alongside all of you in a mission that could not be more compelling — safeguarding lives on our roads.”.
