Ten People To Be Charged For Non-Compliance With Safe Distancing Measures During Phase Two

Five men and five women, aged between 19 and 33, will be charged in court on 22 July 2020 for not complying with safe distancing measures (SDM) under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

On 28 June 2020 at about 12.50am, the Police received a noise pollution complaint at Blk 42 Beo Crescent. When the Police arrived, 13 people were gathered at a fitness corner near Blk 42 Beo Crescent. Portable tables and chairs had been set up and bottles of liquor were found.

10 people will be charged with violating restrictions on leaving their place of residence without a valid reason and for violating the prohibition on social gatherings of more than five persons under regulation 4(2) and regulation 6 of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020 respectively. They will also be charged with consuming liquor at a public place during the prescribed no-public drinking period, under Section 12(1) punishable under Section 12(4)(a) of the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015.

Of the remaining three individuals, the Police, in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Chambers have administered a 12-month conditional warning to a 14-year-old male for violating restrictions on leaving his place of residence without a valid reason and for violating the prohibition on social gatherings under regulation 4(2) and regulation 6 of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020 respectively. Two others from the group will be separately dealt with for breaching the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020, as they are also currently being investigated for other unrelated offences.

The authorities will not hesitate to take action against anyone who does not comply with SDM or who shows blatant disregard for our laws. Let us all do our part to curb the spread of COVID-19.
