The Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of armed robbery.

On 30 July 2022 at about 8.25 pm, the Police were alerted to a case of armed robbery at Richards Place. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly robbed the victim by demanding that she hand over her money and valuables. The victim handed over a Rolex watch, two diamond rings and a diamond bracelet out of fear. The man, who was allegedly armed with a knife, had also purportedly strangled the victim with an electrical cord.

Subsequently, the man allegedly brought the victim to an automated teller machine at Hougang Street 21 and demanded that she withdraw $2,000. He also allegedly demanded that the victim access her online banking account from her mobile phone, he transferred $50,000 out of the account.

Through intensive follow-up investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio, Bedok and Clementi Police Divisions, and officers from the Police Intelligence Department, established the identity of the man and arrested him on 5 August 2022.

The man will be charged in court on 6 August 2022 for an offence of armed robbery under Section 392 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of between three to 14 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

One Rolex watch, one diamond ring and cash amounting to $300 were recovered. The Commercial Affairs Department also recovered more than $47,000 from the bank account which received the transfer from the victim’s bank account.

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Zed Teo commended the officers involved in this operation for their swift response and recovery of the stolen items. AC Zed Teo said, “The Police have zero tolerance towards those who commit brazen acts of crime and violence and will spare no effort in ensuring that offenders are swiftly apprehended and dealt with in accordance with the law.”
