The Police have arrested a 15-year-old teenager for his suspected involvement in a case of armed robbery.

On 18 September 2023 at 5.36am, the Police were alerted to a case of armed robbery at a convenience store along Tampines Central 8. Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenager had allegedly robbed the victim with a knife and demanded for the victim to hand over cash amounting to S$827 and cigarettes valued at S$181.20.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the teenager and arrested him within 10 hours of the report. The stolen cigarettes and cash amounting to S$30 were subsequently recovered.

The teenager will be charged in court on 20 September 2023 with the offence of armed robbery, under Section 392 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence of robbery carries an imprisonment term of between three to 14 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

The Police will spare no effort to arrest those who commit violent crimes. When confronted with a robbery, members of the public are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the Police as soon as possible.
