A 30-year-old man will be charged in court on 14 March 2025 for allegedly causing public nuisance and using threatening behaviour against a public service worker.
On 31 January 2025, at about 2.10pm, the Police were alerted to a dispute at Changi Airport involving an airport shuttle service driver and a man driving a private hire vehicle (PHV). Investigations revealed that the man, who was upset as the shuttle bus had changed lanes along Airport Boulevard, tailgated the shuttle bus and used his PHV to block the shuttle bus at Changi Airport Terminal 1 Departure Bus Bay. The man then exited the vehicle and began gesticulating and shouting vulgarities at the shuttle bus driver. When the shuttle bus driver attempted to drive away, the man allegedly kicked the shuttle bus’s front passenger door and threw his mobile phone at it in an aggressive manner. The man was subsequently arrested by the Police at scene.
The man will be charged in court for the following offences:
- Committing public nuisance under Section 290 of the Penal Code 1871, which offence carries an imprisonment for a term up to 3 months, or with fine which may extend to $2,000, or with both; and
- Using threatening behaviour against public service worker under Section 6(3) of the Protection from Harassment Act 2014, which carries a fine up to $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.
The Police take a serious view of any form of harassment or threatening behaviours toward public service workers including those providing transport services for the public. Such acts not only disrupt essential services but also cause unnecessary inconvenience to the members of the public. Offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
