Six men, aged between 22 and 41, will be charged in court on 23 May 2025 for their alleged involvement in separate cases of child sexual exploitation.
The six men were arrested by the Specialised Crime Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department. The details of their cases are as follows:
- On 25 March 2025, a 37-year-old man was arrested for allegedly engaging a young female victim for commercial sex. He had befriended the minor online and subsequently performed sexual acts on her. He will be charged with one count of commercial sex with a minor under 18 and one count of communicating with a minor under 18 for the purpose of obtaining sexual services under Section 376B of the Penal Code 1871;
- On 5 July 2024, a 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly engaging a young female victim for commercial sex. He had contacted the minor online and subsequently performed penetrative sexual acts on her. He will be charged with eight counts of sexual penetration of a minor under 16 under Section 376A of the Penal Code 1871;
- On 5 March 2024, a 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and obscene films in his mobile phone and computer. He will be charged with one count of possession of child abuse material under Section 377BK of the Penal Code 1871 and one count of possession of obscene films under Section 30 of the Films Act 1981; and
- On 14 March 2023, 22 March 2023 and 18 March 2024, a 30-year-old man, a 41-year-old man and a 35-year-old man were respectively arrested for allegedly possessing CSAM on their mobile phones, storage devices and/or computers respectively. They will each be charged with one count of possession of child abuse material under Section 377BK of the Penal Code 1871.
Under Section 377BK of the Penal Code 1871, any person who has in possession, or has gained access to child abuse material, and knows or has reason to believe that the material is child abuse material shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of up to five years, and shall also be liable to a fine or caning.
Under Section 376B of the Penal Code 1871, any person who obtains for consideration the sexual services of a person, who is below 18 years of age, shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of up to seven years, or to a fine, or to both.
Under Section 376A of the Penal Code 1871, any person who commits sexual penetration of a minor above 14 years of age but below 16 years of age shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of up to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine or to caning.
Under Section 30 of the Films Act 1981, any person who has in his or her possession any obscene film shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $20,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both.
The Police take a serious view of child sexual exploitation and abuse and will spare no effort to protect children from such harm. Those found engaging in such activities shall be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
