The Police will be charging a 17-year-old male teenager for his suspected involvement in a case of wilfully endangering the safety of persons travelling along the railway.
On 10 June 2025, the Police received a report that an individual had trespassed onto the MRT tracks along Upper Changi Road East, between Tanah Merah and Simei MRT stations.
Through ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the teenager and arrested him on 1 July 2025.
Following Police's identification of the teenager’s alleged point of entry, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) took immediate action to enhance security measures at the location to prevent similar incidents from re-occurring.
The teenager will be charged in court on 3 July 2025 for the following offences:
- One count of wilfully endangering safety, under Section 25 of the Rapid Transit Systems Act 1995 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to five years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both; and
- One count of criminal trespass under Section 447 of the Penal Code 1871 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to three months, or with a fine of up to $1,500, or both.
The Police take a serious view against acts that endanger public safety and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
