Fifteen Motorists To Be Charged For Serious Traffic Offences Causing Grievous Hurt

Thirteen men, aged between 34 and 74, will be charged in court on 23 July 2025 with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt. Another 62-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman will be charged on the same day with the offence of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt.

The details of the cases are as follows: 

  1. On 23 March 2025, a 69-year-old male taxi driver was driving along Bukit Batok Street 23, when he collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the road when the pedestrian light was green, while making a left turn. The pedestrian sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  2. On 18 March 2025, a 62-year-old male motorcyclist failed to stop at the red light along Upper Bukit Timah Road towards Bukit Timah Road, resulting in a collision with a motorcycle that had the right of way. The offender and his pillion sustained grievous injuries. The offender will be charged with the offence of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt under Section 64(2A)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  3. On 17 March 2025, a 60-year-old male taxi driver was driving along Woodlands Centre Road towards Woodlands Avenue 1, when he collided with a motorcycle while making a right turn. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries while his pillion sustained minor injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and for driving without reasonable consideration causing hurt under Section 65(4)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  4. On 17 February 2025, a 70-year-old man was driving his car along Kranji Expressway towards Pan Island Expressway, when he collided with a motorcycle while making a left lane change. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  5. On 11 January 2025, a 54-year-old man was driving his car along Petir Road towards Dairy Farm Road, when he collided with a motorcycle while making a left turn. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  6. On 10 December 2024, a 42-year-old male taxi driver was driving along Central Expressway towards Seletar Expressway, when he collided with a motorcycle and two cars. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  7. On 9 December 2024, a 58-year-old male car driver was driving along Geylang East Central, when he collided with a Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB). The PAB rider sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  8. On 14 November 2024, a 49-year-old male car driver was driving along Woodlands Avenue 1, when he collided with a motorcycle while exiting a carpark. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  9. On 12 November 2024, a 38-year-old male car driver was driving along Clementi Road towards Ulu Pandan Road, when he collided with a motorcycle while making a lane change. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  10. On 22 October 2024, a 71-year-old female taxi driver failed to stop at the red light along Bukit Batok West Avenue 5 towards Brickland Road, resulting in a collision with a motorcycle that had the right of way. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt under Section 64(2A)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  11. On 1 September 2024, a 34-year-old male driver was driving a bus along Upper Changi Road North towards Loyang Way, when he collided with a motorcycle while making a right turn. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  12. On 31 July 2024, a 42-year-old male car driver was driving along Cairnhill Road towards Scotts Road, when he collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the zebra crossing. The pedestrian sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  13. On 20 May 2024, a 57-year-old male car driver was driving along Bedok North Avenue 4, when he collided with a motorcycle while making an unauthorised U-turn. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  14. On 9 May 2024, a 74-year-old male taxi driver was driving along Quality Road, when he collided with a prime mover after he failed to stop at the stop line. His passenger sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

  15. On 6 February 2024, a 63-year-old male van driver was driving along Lavender Street towards Victoria Street, when he collided with a motorcycle while making a right lane change. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries, while his pillion sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and for driving without reasonable consideration causing hurt under Section 65(4)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.

The offence of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt under Section 64(2A)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a jail term between one and five years; and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, motorists are liable to a jail term between two and ten years; and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles for at least eight years.

The offence of driving without due care or reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $5,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, motorists are liable to a fine of up to $10,000, a jail term of up to four years, or both, and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles for at least five years.

The offence of driving without due care or reasonable consideration causing hurt under Section 65(4) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $2,500, a jail term of up to 12 months, or both. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, the offence carries a fine of up to $5,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both. Offenders may face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.

The Traffic Police takes a serious view of those who drive in a manner that endangers their safety and that of other road users. All motorists are urged to abide by traffic laws to keep our roads safe for everyone. The Traffic Police will continue to take firm action against errant motorists.
