Singapore Hacker Deported From Thailand To Be Charged For Computer Misuse Act Offences

The Singapore Police Force (‘SPF’) has arrested a 34-year-old Singaporean man following his deportation from Thailand. He is believed to be responsible for hacking into multiple NTUC FairPrice and Zalora accounts to make fraudulent online purchases.

Between July and November 2022, the Police received multiple reports of NTUC FairPrice and Zalora customer accounts being compromised. The compromised NTUC FairPrice and Zalora customer accounts were used to make fraudulent purchases amounting to at least S$25,000. The man had allegedly worked with at least six other individuals.

The man was first charged in court on 8 October 2021 for a separate offence. However, he subsequently absconded while on court bail and failed to attend subsequent court hearings. On 8 September 2022, the State Courts issued a warrant of arrest against him for failure to attend court.

The Police worked with foreign law enforcement counterparts to trace his whereabouts. The man was subsequently arrested by Thai law enforcement authorities in October 2022, and thereafter incarcerated in Thailand for drug-related and immigration offences. On 30 July 2025, he was released from prison, and detained at the immigration detention centre before being deported to Singapore on 25 August 2025. The Royal Thai Police (RTP) assisted the SPF to facilitate the deportation of the man, and he was arrested upon his arrival in Singapore on 25 August 2025.

Following his arrest by the SPF, the man will be charged in court on 26 August 2025 for the offence of unauthorised access to computer material under Section 3(1) of the Computer Misuse Act 1993, which carries an imprisonment term of up to two years, a fine not exceeding $5,000, or both.

Commander of SPF’s Cybercrime Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Paul Tay, expressed his appreciation to RTP for their assistance and said, “The SPF is grateful for the strong support and assistance provided by RTP in the arrest and subsequent deportation of the suspect to Singapore. Criminals can run but we will spare no effort to hunt them down and bring them to justice.”
