In a move that blends cutting-edge tech with green goals, the Traffic Police (TP) will roll out a fleet of 19 fully electric expressway patrol vehicles in the second half of 2025. This electrifying transformation, done in collaboration with the Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX), marks another step towards an electric future for frontline policing.
Power Meets Precision
The vehicle will be deployed to patrol Singapore’s expressways, attend to incidents, assist drivers in distress and conduct enforcement operations against errant motorists.
Not only is the vehicle eco-friendly that helps cut carbon emission, it also represents a step forward in TP’s operational capabilities, enabling officers to respond swiftly to incidents. The All-Wheel Drive system also ensures optimal grip and precise handling, while regenerative braking provides enhanced control and efficiency on the road.
The electric powertrain also offers a range of up to 590km when the battery is fully charged, allowing for sustained operations without the need for constant recharging.
Designed to Enhance Operational Capabilities
Other purpose-built features include the all-round emergency light bar and highly reflective livery to ensure maximum visibility on the road, while the low-tone frequency system cuts through traffic noise to alert motorists ahead.
The interior design of the vehicle accommodates officers’ equipment belts while the rear compartment includes a secure partition for persons-in-custody.
The expressway patrol car is also equipped with advanced communications and surveillance systems. These include the Automated Number Plate Recognition technology (which detects vehicles-of-interests) and the In-Vehicle Video Recording System with live-streaming, for better sense-making and incident management.
Leading the Charge for Sustainability
The fleet of expressway patrol cars will be hitting the roads after equipment installation has been completed and TP officers have undergone familiarisation training.
The electric vehicle chargers installed will deliver fast charging capability to ensure high operational readiness with short charging time. A charging management system will also be installed to ensure optimal charging operations.
