Man Arrested For Housebreaking And Theft

The Police have arrested a 54-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.

On 30 December 2020, the Police received a report that a unit located along Simon Road had been broken into. Cash amounting to about $800 was reported as stolen.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 13 January 2021.

The man will be charged in court on 15 January 2021 with housebreaking and theft under Section 458A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, a fine and caning.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1. Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  2. Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in your premises; and

  3. Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
