Man Arrested For Snatch Theft Within Two Hours

The Police have arrested a 48-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.

On 9 July 2022 at 10.30am, the Police were alerted to a case of snatch theft along Jalan Bukit Merah, where a victim’s clutch bag containing cash amounting to about $60 and a mobile phone was allegedly snatched by an unknown man.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day within two hours of the reported crime. The clutch bag and mobile phone were recovered and seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 11 July 2022 with the offence of snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and caning.

The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
