Man Arrested For Snatch Theft Within Six Hours

The Police have arrested a 59-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.

On 24 October 2022 at about 5.16pm, the Police were alerted to a case of snatch theft along Bedok North Street 3, where a victim’s gold chain with a gold pendant valued at $450 was allegedly snatched by an unknown man.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police and CCTV cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day, within six hours of the reported crime. This was despite the man’s attempt to shield his face from being captured on CCTV by using an umbrella while fleeing. The umbrella and a set of clothing worn during the commission of the offence were seized as exhibits. The gold chain belonging to the victim was also recovered.

The man will be charged in court on 26 October 2022 with the offence of snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and caning.

The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
