Man Arrested For Outrage Of Modesty

The Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty.

On 7 April 2024 at about 9.15pm, the Police received a call for assistance that a woman was purportedly molested by a man at Mustafa Centre. The man had allegedly touched the woman inappropriately a few times while he was standing behind her. The man was subsequently detained by the security officers and arrested at scene by responding Police officers.

The man will be charged in court on 9 April 2024 with the offence of outrage of modesty under Sec 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to three years, a fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments. 

The Police have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the safety of the community, and offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law. The Police would also like to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and to report the matter to the Police immediately, if they witness an incident of molestation or are aware of someone being a victim of molestation.
