Man Arrested For Housebreaking

The Police have arrested a 62-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking.

On 14 May 2024, at about 9.05pm, the Police received a report of a case where a man had stolen money from a mosque’s donation box. 

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from the Police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 16 May 2024. Cash amounting to $16 was recovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly trespassed into the mosque after the operating hours and had purportedly used a clothes hanger to steal the money from the donation box.

The man will be charged in court on 17 May 2024 with the offence of Housebreaking punishable under Section 451 read with Section 458A of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 10 years and shall also be liable to fine and canning.
