The police have arrested a 29-year-old female Indonesian for her suspected involvement in abandoning her newborn baby.

On 27 July 2020 at 7.47pm, the police were alerted that a newborn baby boy was found abandoned inside a recycling bin located along Tai Keng Gardens. Through extensive ground investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV footage provided by residents, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the woman, who is believed to have abandoned the baby. She was arrested on 29 July 2020. The woman is believed to be the mother of the child and the police are looking into the identity of the child’s father.

The woman will be charged in court on 30 July 2020 with exposure and abandonment of a child under 12 years old, under Section 317 of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both.
