The Police have arrested a 67-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of cheating. 

On 26 August 2023 at about 3.10pm, the police were alerted to a case of cheating at the vicinity of Block 20 Ghim Moh Road. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was purportedly cheated of $450 by an unknown man who had approached him and claimed to sell iPhones at a cheaper price. After the victim agreed to the sale and handed over the money to him, the man asked victim to wait while he retrieved the mobile phone. However, the man did not return, and the victim did not receive any iPhone in the end.

Through follow-up investigations, and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day at 9.30pm.

The man will be charged in court on 28 August 2023 with the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police take a serious view of cheating offences, and offenders will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
