A 30-year-old man will be charged in court for his suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty.
On 5 September 2024 at about 8.10am, the victim lodged a Police report stating that the man had allegedly touched her inappropriately while she was on board a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) train. Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTVs, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 7 September 2024.
The man will be charged in court on 28 November 2024 with the offence of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to three years, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.
The Police have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the personal safety of those in the community. Offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with various stakeholders, such as public entertainment outlets, public transport operators, and the community, to prevent, deter and detect molestation cases. The Police would like to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report the matter to the Police immediately, if they witness an incident of molestation, or are aware of someone being a victim of molestation.
