The Police have arrested a 25-year-old male Indian national for his suspected involvement in a case of shop theft at Changi Airport Terminal 2.

On 23 January 2025, the Police were alerted to a case of shop theft after a tie clip valued at $480 was discovered missing from a retail shop at the transit area of Terminal 2. CCTV footage revealed that the man had entered and browsed the retail shop, before taking the tie clip and discreetly slipping it into his left pocket. He then left the shop without paying. The man’s identity was subsequently established but he had already departed from Singapore.

On 28 January 2025, the man returned to Singapore whilst on transit in Changi Airport and was arrested. The Police recovered the stolen tie clip from his possession.

The man will be charged in court on 4 Feb 2025 for the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, or with a fine, or with both.

The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft.
