The Police have arrested a 43-year-old male Irish national for his involvement in two cases of shop theft committed in the transit area of Changi Airport.
On 9 June 2025 at about 10.05am, the Police were alerted to a case of shop theft at “The Shilla Cosmetics & Perfumes” outlet located in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 1. Preliminary investigations revealed that on 8 June 2025, the man had allegedly taken two bottles of perfumes with a total value of $491.70, from the outlet’s display shelf and exited the store without paying. The perfumes were subsequently discovered missing by the staff during their stocktake. With the aid of CCTV cameras, officers from Airport Police Division established the identity of the man but he had already departed from Singapore.
On 13 June 2025, the man flew back to Changi Airport on transit for another flight and was arrested by the Police. Further investigations revealed that the man had also committed another shop theft on 13 June 2025 and allegedly stole one perfume valued at $167 from another “The Shilla Cosmetics & Perfumes” outlet in Changi Airport Terminal 1 prior to his arrest. Two of the three stolen perfumes were recovered from him.
The man will be charged in court on 8 July 2025 for the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, or with a fine, or with both.
The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft.
