Execution Of Convicted Murderer

The capital sentence of death imposed on Ahmed Salim (“Ahmed”) was carried out on 28 February 2024.

Ahmed, a 35-year-old Bangladeshi national, was charged with and convicted of the murder of his ex-fiancée in Singapore, and was sentenced to capital punishment on 14 December 2020.

Ahmed was accorded full due process under the law, and had access to legal counsel throughout the process. He appealed against his conviction and sentence, and the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal on 19 January 2022. Ahmed’s petition to the President for clemency was unsuccessful.

Capital punishment is used only for the most serious crimes in Singapore that cause grave harm to the victim, or to society. Capital punishment is but one part of Singapore’s criminal justice system, which has kept Singapore and Singaporeans safe and secure.
