Former Wirecard Employee Extradited To Germany

On 30 March 2026, Brigitte Häuser-Axtner (“Brigitte”), a 49-year-old German national, was extradited to Germany. Brigitte was wanted by the German authorities for alleged criminal organisation, computer fraud and money laundering offences linked to the Wirecard Group. At the time of her arrest in Singapore in furtherance of the extradition, Brigitte was an Employment Pass holder employed by an unrelated company in Singapore.

Background

On 24 October 2025, Singapore received a request from Germany to provisionally arrest Brigitte for the abovementioned offences. The Singapore Police Force (“SPF”) applied to the Singapore Courts for a warrant of arrest on 1 November 2025, following an assessment by the Attorney-General’s Chambers that the legal requirements for extradition were met. The Court granted the warrant on 3 November 2025.

Brigitte was subsequently arrested by the SPF on 4 November 2025 as part of an international operation coordinated by the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (“Eurojust”) and involved law enforcement agencies from ten countries, including Singapore. The operation was executed against alleged fraud and money laundering networks involving German payment service providers. Between 2016 and 2021, the suspects were allegedly involved in stealing credit card data, setting up fake accounts, authorising and concealing payments, and money laundering.

Upon her arrest, Brigitte remained in custody without bail pending the submission of a formal request for her extradition.

Formal request for Brigitte’s extradition

On 24 December 2025, Singapore received a formal request from Germany to extradite Brigitte. Brigitte consented to her surrender to Germany on 10 February 2026 and the Court committed Brigitte to prison to await her surrender. The Singapore authorities worked with the German authorities to arrange for the extradition of Brigitte, which took place on 30 March 2026.

Singapore’s commitment

As a responsible member of the international community, Singapore is committed to facilitating international cooperation to combat transnational crime and money laundering, including in matters of extradition in accordance with our domestic laws and international obligations.
