The Police will be charging a 41-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of criminal breach of trust as an agent.
On 17 September 2025, officers from Bedok Police Division received a police report from a victim who was unable to make a claim from her personal insurance policy for outstanding medical bills amounting to $56,444.51, despite making premium payments to an insurance agent.
Through investigations, officers established that the man, who was working as an insurance agent, had allegedly failed to secure a personal insurance policy for the victim. Instead, he had allegedly placed her under a corporate hospital plan without her knowledge, despite the victim not being employed by the corporate company. The man had allegedly pocketed the premium payments made by the victim. As a result, the insurance company did not honour the claim submitted by the victim.
The man will be charged in court on 8 April 2026 with the offence of criminal breach of trust as an agent under Section 409 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 20 years, and the offender is also liable to a fine.
The Police take a serious view of such offences and will not hesitate to take action against those who abuse their positions of trust to defraud members of the public. The Police would like to remind members of the public to verify their insurance policies directly with the insurance companies and to report any suspicious activities to the Police.
