Man To Be Charged For Voluntarily Causing Hurt And Mischief

The Police will be charging a 47-year-old man in court on 22 April 2026 for his suspected involvement in voluntarily causing hurt and mischief against a 33-year-old woman.

On 11 February 2026 at about 11.35 am, the Police received a report regarding an alleged assault on a 33-year-old woman, which occurred in the vicinity of 304 Orchard Road on 8 February 2026. The woman suffered injuries to various parts of her body and experienced bodily pain after allegedly being hit and kicked by the man. During the incident, the man also allegedly damaged her personal property.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both parties are known to each other and the man had assaulted the same woman on 30 March 2025. After careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, the Police, in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), issued a 12-month conditional warning to the man on 8 May 2025 for voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code and mischief under Section 426 of the Penal Code 1871 in relation to the 2025 incident.

As the man breached this conditional warning by allegedly committing additional offences against the same victim during the recent incident on 8 February 2026, he will be charged in court on 22 April 2026 with two counts of voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code 1871 and two counts of mischief under Section 426 of the Penal Code 1871 in respect of the 2025 incident and the recent incident on 8 February 2026.

The offence of voluntarily causing hurt carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, or with fine of up to $5000, or with both. The offence of mischief carries an imprisonment term of up to two years, or with fine or with both.

The Police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence and will take firm action towards those who blatantly disregard the law.
