Man Arrested For Unauthorised Access To A Media-Content Server

The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of unauthorised access to a media-content server.

On 16 April 2026, the Police received a report indicating that extracts from a yet-to-be-released animated film were circulating on social media platforms. Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department swiftly established the identity of the man and arrested him within a day of the report. Various electronic devices belonging to the man were seized, and a copy of the film was recovered from his devices.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had gained unauthorised remote access to the media-content server and downloaded the film. He subsequently posted parts of the film online. The man is currently being investigated for the offence of Unauthorised Access to Computer Material under Section 3(2) of the Computer Misuse Act 1993. The offence carries a maximum imprisonment term of seven years, a fine not exceeding S$50,000, or both.

The Police take a serious view against any unauthorised access to computer systems. Anyone found to be involved in such activities will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
