The Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his suspected involvement in several cases of loanshark harassment.
On 3 May 2026, the Police were alerted to several cases of loanshark harassments at two residential units along Bedok North Avenue 3 and Whampoa Drive, as well as an industrial unit in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2, where the main gates and doors of the units were splashed with paint and debtor’s notes were also pasted on them.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division and the Police Operations Command Centre established the identity of the man and arrested him within 12 hours of the first report. Items including one can of paint, three debtor’s notes and one mobile phone were seized as case exhibits.
The man will be charged in court on 5 May 2026 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way. The public can call ‘999’ if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
