The Police will be charging a 43-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty.
On 16 May 2026 at about 6.15pm, the Police received a call for assistance at Block 363C Sembawang Crescent, whereby a man was believed to be drunk and causing a commotion in his residential unit. When Police officers arrived at the location, they established that the man had broken some of the window panels in his unit, sustaining injuries.
When officers from Woodlands Police Division checked on the man, he turned aggressive and allegedly hurled vulgarities at the officers. The man was subsequently arrested and conveyed to the hospital. While enroute to the hospital, the man allegedly kicked a Police officer.
The 43-year-old man will be charged in court on 18 May 2026 for the offence of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 332 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine, or caning.
The Police have zero tolerance towards acts of violence or abuse against public servants who are carrying out their duties. Offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
