The Police have arrested three male youths, aged between 17 and 21, for their suspected involvement in a case of theft of motor vehicle.
On 23 May 2026 at about 6.45pm, the Police were alerted to a case of theft of motor vehicle. The victim reported that her van parked at a carpark along Tampines Avenue 9 was purportedly stolen.
Through follow-up investigations and ground enquires, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the three male youths and arrested them on 24 and 25 May 2026. The stolen van was recovered.
One of the 17-year-old male youths will be charged in court on 28 May 2026 with the offence of theft of a motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.
Police investigations are ongoing for the other 17-year-old and 21-year-old male youths.
The Police would like to advise all motor vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Park your vehicle in well-lit areas;
- Install an anti-theft alarm for your vehicle and ensure that it is well-maintained;
- Do not leave your key or transponder unattended;
- Remove cash-cards, keys and other valuables, such as laptops and mobile phones before leaving the vehicle; and
- Wind up all windows and lock all doors of the vehicle, even if it is intended to be left unattended for a short while.
