Two Malaysians Presented With Safersg Public Spiritedness Awards

On 16 June 2026, in a ceremony held at sea off Northern Pulau Ubin, the Police Coast Guard (PCG) presented the SaferSG Public Spiritedness Award to two Malaysian men for assisting the Police by providing information that resulted in the recovery of a stolen Singapore-registered pleasure craft found in Malaysia Territorial Waters (MTW).

The brief facts of the case are as follows:

On 2 June 2026, Mr Muhammad Azrie Bin Manab (“Mr Azrie”), a Malaysian fisherman, spotted a Singapore-registered pleasure craft berthed at a mooring buoy in MTW. As it is uncommon for a Singapore-registered craft to be found at this location, it raised Mr Azrie’s suspicions. He then took a photograph of the craft and shared the image with his cousin, Mr Khairil Faizal Bin Othman (“Mr Khairil”), to verify his suspicions. Acting on this information, Mr Khairil approached a PCG patrol boat on the same day and alerted the officers to the sighting. This timely tip-off proved instrumental in helping PCG locate and recover the missing craft, which was reported stolen earlier that day.

With the assistance of the Royal Malaysia Police’s Marine Police Force, PCG took over the craft and subsequently returned it to its rightful owner.

Police investigations into the case are ongoing.

Commander of the Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) of Police Ang Eng Seng, expressed his appreciation to the award recipients. He said “Criminals exploit jurisdictional borders to evade law enforcement. By working closely with our counterparts and the community in Malaysia, we can extend the long arms of justice across our borders and help more victims of crime. This case is an exemplary example showcasing the success of cross-jurisdiction partnership between Singapore and Malaysia.”

Members of the public who encounter any suspicious vessels or activities at sea are encouraged to report them immediately to the Police.
