The nationwide ONE Countdown festivities welcomed the new year with celebrations spanning prominent locations such as Marina Bay and The Kallang, as well as various heartland sites.
As expectant crowds gathered at these venues in anticipation of the fireworks to usher in 2026, officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) stood ready and vigilant to ensure their safety.
Police Life was on the ground at Marina Bay to observe how our officers secured the Countdown!
All Hands on Deck
To manage the large crowds effectively and respond to emergencies, about 700 Police officers were deployed around Marina Bay and The Kallang.
Officers from various Police Land Divisions, the Special Operations Command, Protective Security Command, Public Transport Security Command, Police Coast Guard and Traffic Police conducted enhanced patrols in the area throughout the night. These officers were supported by auxiliary police officers and other security personnel as well.
Lighting the Way
To enhance the visibility of walking paths for the crowds, LED runway lights were deployed around the Marina Bay area to help members of the public navigate to various transport nodes.
These LED lights were complemented by LED-backlit signages showing directional arrows. Together, these technological aids eased crowd movement along key walking routes.
For the first time during a major deployment, the SPF also utilised animated signage boards to share timely information on the ground. Six animated signage boards in the Marina Bay area projected content such as directional messages and announcement videos, enabling members of the public to locate nearby MRT stations and check train timings.
Crowd@MarinaBay: Providing Real-Time Updates
Not sure how to check out the festivities on the ground? As in previous years, live maps on the Crowd@MarinaBay and Crowd@Kallang websites allowed members of the public to view real-time crowd levels around Marina Bay and The Kallang respectively.
A newly introduced feature in the live maps also allowed users to view photos of the crowd situation on the ground. This change was made due to observations by officers that real-time photos would be more informative to users than arrows, providing a clearer sense of crowd levels. Another key feature allowed users to find out where they were on the map by clicking the “Current Location” icon, for better wayfinding.
To a Safer Year for All
“5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Happy New Year!”
As the clock struck midnight, a series of fireworks lit up the sky across Singapore, sending bursts of colours that were greeted with cheers and applause from the crowd. Thanks to our officers whose vigilance ensured that we could celebrate the new year safely.
Here’s to another year of making Singapore the safest place in the world. Police Life wishes everyone a Happy New Year!
