The Hotel Security Awards and Conference 2024 celebrated the dedication of hotel staff and explored strategies to tackle emerging security threats in the industry.

The Hotel Security Awards and Conference 2024 held on 23 October at Furama RiverFront Singapore focused on “Countering Emerging Threats in Security”. The event, co-organised by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) and supported by the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), under the Hotel Industry Safety and Security Watch Group (iSSWG), aimed to recognise the exemplary efforts of hotel staff in ensuring a safe and secure environment for both employees and visitors.
The conference was graced by Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State (MOS) for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Social and Family Development, who served as the Guest of Honour. During her opening address, MOS Sun commended the dedication of award recipients who went above and beyond their duties to maintain safety and security within their workplaces.
Among the awardees was Mr Kenneth Lua from Village Hotel Singapore, who received the Bravery Award. His quick and decisive actions saved a hotel guest's life when he performed CPR on a choking individual while directing a colleague to call for paramedics. Mr Lua’s courage and presence of mind were celebrated as an inspiring example for all in the hotel industry.
Focusing on Emerging Threats: Hotel Security Conference
In conjunction with the awards, a security conference was held to discuss the evolving challenges in the hotel industry. The conference featured three insightful presentations: “Radicalisation and Terror Landscape Updates” presented by the Ministry of Home Affairs, providing crucial updates on the current terror threats and the ongoing efforts to combat radicalisation; “Cybersecurity Challenges and Solutions for the Hotel Industry” presented by the Cyber Security Association of Singapore, highlighting the cybersecurity threats specific to hotels and the mitigation measures; and “Enhancing Hotel Security – The Revised SS545” presented by the NCPC to discuss the newly revised security standards, aiming to bolster safety protocols and procedures in hotels.
