At the forefront of the Singapore Police Force’s (SPF) response to public security threats stands the Protective Security Command (ProCom), a specialist line unit that protects strategic locations and events.
On 22 June 2025, the ProCom launched its Strategic Location Response (SLR) deployment at a flag-off ceremony officiated by Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Victor Ho, Commander of ProCom.
ProCom’s SLR concept of operations allows the SPF to respond more swiftly to public security incidents. SLR officers will also project Police presence by conducting high-visibility patrols at key locations, including shopping centres and tourist attractions.
Alert and in Flight
SLR officers will be equipped with drones and counter-drone systems i.e. handheld drone jammers. During a demonstration at ProCom Headquarters, we were shown a simulated public security situation involving a gunman on the third floor of a building. Officers swiftly deployed a drone to track the gunman’s movements, capturing him with thermal imaging and sending real-time images to the Ground Commander.
To counter aerial threats, SLR officers can also use handheld drone-jamming devices, developed in collaboration with the Home Team Science and Technology Agency to neutralise unauthorised drones.
Ready for Rough Terrain
A rugged new addition to the ProCom fleet, the off-road vehicle is designed to enhance operations on challenging ground. “It can navigate varied terrain due to its high ground clearance, enabling us to move over obstacles swiftly,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jaslyn Lee, Officer-in-Charge of an SLR Troop.
The vehicles are purpose-built to support SLR patrols. “Compared to their predecessors, our new off-road vehicles offer larger cabin space to accommodate our operational equipment and officers in tactical gear,” ASP Lee added.
These vehicles are also equipped with a 360-degree camera system, multiple airbags and a tyre pressure monitoring system to enhance driving safety.
“Through implementing SLR, we aim to strengthen the SPF’s ability to respond swiftly to public security incidents,” said AC Ho. “Using advanced technologies such as drones and counter-drone systems, we aim to respond more effectively to a wider range of security threats.”
