"Music and service came together in the most unexpected but fulfilling way,” said Supt Sulaiman. In 1992, he enlisted as an full-time Police National Service officer and two years later in 1994, he signed on as a regular Singapore Police Force (SPF) patrol officer, holding the rank of a Police Constable before joining the Band in 1995.
Since then, Supt Sulaiman, currently the Director of Music at the SPF Band, has gone on to perform at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Canada and recently led the SPF Band at the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland. He even composed ‘The Ride’ for Police Day Parade 2023.
As we celebrate 100 years of the SPF Band, Supt Sulaiman reflects on its evolution from a traditional marching band to a dynamic musical force.
For him, “reaching 100 years is more than a milestone. It's a celebration of resilience, passion and evolution. It’s deeply humbling to be a part of this legacy.”
