On 16 April 2025, the Sexual Crime and Family Violence Command (SFC) conducted the fourth edition of the Sexual Crime Awareness Seminar, held in conjunction with International Sexual Assault Awareness Month at the Police Cantonment Complex.
The seminar was graced by Commander SFC, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Heng Chih Yang, as Guest-of-Honour, and drew around 200 participants, including officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and representatives from key partner agencies.
This year’s seminar spotlighted the topic of “Victim Care”, underscoring the importance of empowering victims of sexual crime to come forward, seek help and begin their journey towards healing.
In his opening address, SAC Heng highlighted the critical role of trauma-informed, victim-centric support in helping survivors recover. He emphasised that the success of the victim care framework lies in the close collaboration between internal and external partners, whose coordinated efforts ensure holistic care for victims.
Participants heard from a range of speakers representing the SFC, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the Ministry of Social and Family Development, and the Attorney-General’s Chambers. The presentations offered diverse perspectives on supporting victims of sexual crime and shed light on the challenges faced by each agency in their work.
The seminar concluded with a lively panel discussion, where panellists shared their insights and explored ways to enhance the existing victim care framework.
The seminar was a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and reaffirm their collective commitment to supporting survivors of sexual crime with empathy, professionalism and care.
