Man To Be Charged For Possession Of A Scheduled Weapon, Unauthorised Possession Of Weapons And Multiple Traffic Offences

A 36-year-old man will be charged in court on 19 June 2026 for possession of a scheduled weapon, unauthorised possession of weapons and multiple traffic offences.

On 17 June 2026 at about 8am, the Police were alerted to an accident involving a car and a taxi along Kallang Bahru towards Lavender Street. A 60-year-old male taxi driver and his 43-year-old female passenger were conveyed conscious to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 36-year-old male driver had driven erratically and collided into a taxi from the opposite direction. He subsequently abandoned his car, obstructing traffic, and fled the scene before Police’s arrival. Suspected drugs, drug-related paraphernalia, vaporisers and a knuckleduster were found in the car and seized as case exhibits.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police cameras, Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within five hours of the report. Two knives believed to belong to the man were also seized during the arrest.

The man will be charged in court on 19 June 2026 for the following offences:

  • Possession of a scheduled weapon under Section 7 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act;
  • Unauthorised possession of weapons under Section 29 of the Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021;
  • Driving while under the influence of a drug under Section 67(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961;
  • Dangerous driving causing hurt under Section 64(4) punishable under Section 64(8)(c) of the Road Traffic Act 1961;
  • Driving without a valid driving licence under Section 35(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961;
  • Leaving vehicle causing obstruction under Section 122 Road Traffic Act 1961; and
  • Using motor vehicle without insurance under Section 3(1) Motor Vehicle Act 1960.

The suspected drug-related offences have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), and the vaporiser-related offence has been referred to the Health Sciences Authority. He will also be investigated by the CNB for the possession of controlled drugs under Section 8(a) of Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, consumption of controlled drugs under Section 8(b)(ii) of Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, and the possession of drug paraphernalia under Section 9 of Misuse of Drugs Act 1973.

Driving under the influence of drugs is an extremely dangerous and irresponsible act. The Police will take firm action against motorists who drive under the influence of drugs, psychoactive substances, intoxicating substances or alcohol. The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
